Soundproofing Walls in London Solid Brick/Block • Timber Frame

There are three solutions to soundproofing walls in order to achieve both airborne and impact noise reduction: all meet building regulations. The effectiveness of wall soundproofing improves as each high performance, slimline, acoustic solution increases in thickness.  However the cost hardly alters due to the use of commodity sound insulation products. Select the widest soundproofing wall solution which you can possibly use from below.

1. Direct to Wall Solution 27.5mm - 30mm

Application:  Best slimline performance for absolute minimal loss of living space, where the following wider options are not possible e.g. remedial solution to meet building regulations.

Construction (Brick or Block Wall):
- wall with or without existing plaster / plasterboard.
- 15mm Phonewell® Sound Insulation.
- 12.5mm or 15mm sound resistant plasterboard.

2. Decoupled Wall Solution 43.5mm - 46mm

Application: High performance on a reasonably flat and true wall, with minimal loss of living space.

Construction (Flat Brick or Block Wall):
- wall with or without existing plaster / plasterboard.
- 16mm resilient bars (optional: 20mm mineral wool infill)
- 15mm Phonewell® Sound Insulation.
- 12.5mm or 15mm sound resistant plasterboard.
- (optional second layer of plasterboard)

3. Decoupled Battened Wall Solution 67.5mm - 94mm

Application: Ultimate performance, still minimal loss of living space.

Construction (Brick or Block Wall):
- wall with or without existing plaster / plasterboard.
- 24mm x 48mm stud or 48mm x 48mm stud.
- optional: 25mm or 50mm x 45kg/m³ mineral wool to suit stud.
- 16mm resilient bars.
- 15mm Phonewell® Sound Insulation.
- 12.5mm or 15mm sound resistant plasterboard.
- (optional second layer of plasterboard).

Application: Simple slimline solution with a high performance of over 50dB! For absolute minimal living space loss, e.g. bedrooms, bathrooms, offices and to meet building regulations.

Construction (Stud Partition):
- wall with or without existing plasterboard.
- (optionally fit 45kg/m³ mineral wool to suit stud void).
- 15mm Phonewell® Sound Insulation.
- 12.5mm or 15mm sound resistant plasterboard.

2. Decoupled Wall Solutions 43.5mm - 46mm

Application: - Highest performance with minimal space loss.

- 15mm Phonewell® Sound Insulation.
